The main sentence of Agendas on Urbanism MVRDV is Where is Urbanism? There is stated that according to a number of people urbanism almost doesn’t exist. Nowadays it is believed that huge urban projects have no authors, apart from Haussmann in Paris and Niemeyer in Brasilia. Urbanism develops very slowly in comparison to architecture, for example. As a result, urban planning progress is almost invisible. MVRDV members took this problem to be solved, as a challenge.
In the book they show their projects, which in collaboration with architectural designs, create a better value of cities. Who but for urban planners could change an unsafe and depressing area in one of the most qualitative public spaces in the city? In the book it is shown, there is a lot of design companies which can manage it. Thanks of them urbanism is getting more and more popular, attractive and noticeable.

MVRDV was set up in Rotterdam in 1993 by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs, Nathalie de Vries. At the beginning of their career they were working separately but later they decided to connect their ideas to make something more important for contemporary architecture. They found urbanism as boring, not effective and they released that nobody take care about urban problems. As a result the MVRDV group tries to fix that situation connecting urban and architectural projects in huge, phenomenal realizations. The work of MVRDV is exhibited and published world wide and receives international awards.

Program: Mixed-use Urban Plan
Restoration and upgrade of the Les Halles station and shopping centre in the hearth of Paris.
A transformation of the dark, unsafe suburbia of Paris in phenomenal public space. In the buildings there was used new technology of construction. Garden with trees is located on the glassy roof of shopping center, what isn’t very common in contemporary architecture yet. All the establishment interplay very well with existing surroundings.

Designing a new resident area in Almere, MVRDV has developed a way to communicate easily with customers. Thanks to the new web-tool, future inhabitants can take part in creating theirs houses and neighborhood.

Capitolo 8 – No. 1 Art Zone. Different Scales

Development of space in relation to existing railway station and museum. The area is sheared for zones: Access, Soho, Art Incubation, Shop, Pavillion . The establishment is varied with water between buildings instead of fences.

A district of single houses hanged in the air and supported by skyscrapers in the center of the city, close to the river.

The group of skyscrapers located on a beach reminds weaves because of their shape and urban rhythm. MVRDV fulfilled a challenge to mach to the current Manhattan typology.

Program: Mixed- use
All buildings and streets are made of the same material- rock which is characteristic for Tuscany. This settlement reminds a small town on account of including all necessary functions.

For the area placed between hills MVRDV designed skyscrapers in a hill shape. All of them are symmetric with visible horizontally divides.

Program: Railway Station and Mixed- use Facilities
Train traffic is located underground and at level 0. Pedestrian traffic and green are moved on the level 1 what makes the area more comfortable and safe.

Capitolo 20 – Songdo. Landmark City. The Poetic Mass Housing

Casual, straight skyscrapers weren’t quaint for the designers, so they decided to make them in shape of grass. It gave not only good looking but also better light collaboration. The Grass Field made of 25 towers offers the large quantity of required apartments, the standard typologies and it focuses on the community aspect.

The residential park built on a manner of putting blocks on hills, what works very well with the terrain. The houses have maximum open view and natural ventilation.

Capitolo 25 – Plant City Jinhua. The GreenLibrary
Location: Jinhua City, China

Program: Park design for the Jinhua 500 Islands
This design is absolutely different because doesn’t include any buildings which are not covered by plants. It is an island- garden placed on a river. In the project there was predicted 500 plots with size of 12 x 48 m. In the future they can be form also vertically.

Program: Spatial program of the Olympic Games in the Netherlands in 2028
The urban agglomeration of stadiums and accommodation for athletes which includes a lot of playgrounds situated vertically to safe the space.
